Dogs
Canadians must fill out a dog importation form online ahead of time. This can be found on the CDC’s website or at the link below.
Bringing a dog from Canada to the US involves specific requirements, particularly regarding rabies vaccination and a CDC Dog Import Form. Dogs must be at least six months old, microchipped, appear healthy, and have the necessary paperwork.
For dogs that have been in a high-risk country in the past 6 months, additional restrictions may apply, potentially requiring arrival at a CDC-registered animal care facility at an airport.
Key Requirements:
- Microchip: Ensure your dog has an ISO-compliant microchip and that your contact information is up-to-date in the registry. If your dog isn’t microchipped, you can tell the agents at the border that you are doing it at your visit with us.
- Rabies Vaccination: The dog must have a valid rabies vaccination certificate from a licensed veterinarian.
- CDC Dog Import Form: Complete and submit the CDC Dog Import Form online before your travel date.
- Health: The dog must appear healthy upon arrival.
- Age: Dogs must be at least six months old.
