Jeff LaHuis
Owner, DVM
Dr. Jeff LaHuis is from lower Michigan (Otsego) and graduated from Michigan State University in 1995 with a doctorate in Veterinary Medicine and a B.S. in Animal Science. Since graduation, he has practiced medicine around the state. Dr. LaHuis bought Sault Animal Hospital in 2010 after moving here from Battle Creek, MI. Before purchasing the clinic, he was employed at a large vet hospital where he honed his skills at the surgery and diagnostic ultrasound.
Dr. LaHuis has a passion for finding problems associated with working dogs, from strains and sprains to behavioral problems. Personally, he has trained several dogs through Schutzhund, including titling two of his own dogs.
Dr. LaHuis resides in Sault Ste. Marie and shares his home with his wife, Marci, son Adam, stepdaughter Kinley, along with their animals. They include two dogs, seven cats, and four horses!
Dr. LaHuis is also a veteran serving as a soldier in the US Army Reserve Veterinary Corps. There he was in command of a veterinary team responsible for food safety and care of military working dogs.
Hailey Sharrard
DVM
Dr. Hailey started at Sault Animal Hospital in 2022 following graduation from the College of Veterinary Medicine at Michigan State University, where she also has a BS in Animal Science. She originally hails from the thumb of Michigan where she grew up on her family’s dairy farm. She now resides in Rudyard, MI with her fiancé, two cats and Great Pyranese. In her free time, she enjoys reading, spending time on her fiancé’s farm, and exploring the U.P. With her background in dairy, her favorite animal will always be the Holstein Cow, which is why she has her own “herd” of black and white “Holstein” cats!
Kaityln Goodman
DVM
Dr. Kaitlyn is a 2025 Graduate from Michigan State University. She is a local that has returned to serve the community with both small and large animal veterinary care.
Her family raises show cattle and supports local 4-H kids in their livestock journeys. She has a special love for reproductive management in all species and would love to be a part of achieving your goals! In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her husband, playing with her dog and spending time on the lake in a kayak.
Nick Hughey
Practice Manager
Nick has worked at Sault Animal Hospital for a combined 4 years. He is originally from Mackinac Island, MI and moved to the area after serving our country in the US Marine Corps. Nick carries an MBA and is passionate about this industry. Nick plays and coaches a variety of sports. He also is married and has three children at home.
Marci LaHuis
Office Manager
Marci is the wife of Dr. Jeff and is the Office Manager. She was born and raised in Sault, MI and holds a BS in Business Administration and Management with a minor in Finance and Accounting. She enjoys reading, going to the beach, and spending time with her family. Her favorite animals are dogs and cats.
Megan
Veterinary Technician Assistant
Megan has been working here at Sault Animal Hospital for 13 years now and has more than 24 years of experience in the field. Megan is working here dream job as head of surgery and loves what she does!
Kayla
Veterinary Technician Assistant
Kayla grew up in Cedarville, MI and moved to the Sault in 2014 for school. She has always loved animals of every shape and size. Growing up, Kayla had dogs and show rabbits. Now she enjoys her three cats at home and training her orange tabby as if he were a hunting dog!
Sarah
Veterinary Technician Assistant
Sarah was born and raised in Pickford, MI and now resides in Sault Ste. Marie, MI. Sarah has one dog, Charlie, and one cat, Gus. She enjoys hiking, painting, reading, and horseback riding. Her favorite animals are horses, dogs, & cats!
Autumn
Veterinary Technician Assistant
Autumn is born in Flint, MI and raised in Cheboygan, MI. She moved to Sault Ste. Marie, MI to be closer to her mother. Autumn lives with her mother, brother, husband and daughter! She enjoys video game and spending time with family and friends. She has cats and dogs at home for pets, but loves all animals. Her favorite animal is an African Wild Dog! Her passion for animals has directed her into the Veterinary path to be a Vet Assistant and it is her pleasure to take care of your family members!
Grace
Veterinary Technician Assistant
Grace is originally from Newberry, MI and now resides in Sault Ste. Marie. With a lifelong love for animals cultivated by her upbringing with dogs and rabbits, she is proud to be a Vet Tech Assistant here at Sault Animal Hospital. She is currently studying to become a Licensed Vet Tech (LVT). She enjoys reading, being outdoors, spending time with friends and family, and taking care of animals.
Logan
Veterinary Technician Assistant
Logan has worked for Sault Animal Hospital since his senior year in high school through their Allied Health program. He is a Sault Ste. Marie native that currently attends Lake Superior State University for athletic training. Logan enjoys playing hockey and lifting weights. He has two dogs and a cat at home.
Reanne
Veterinary Technician Assistant
Reanne was born and raised in West Branch, MI. She recently moved to Sault Sainte Marie to attend Lake Superior State University to study Pre Vet Med. In her spare time, she enjoys working with her livestock, spending time with her family and friends, and snuggling with her two kitties.
Sophia
Veterinary Technician Assistant
Sophia comes to us straight out of high school as a 2025 graduate and plans to attend Baker College to become a Licensed Veterinary Technician. She grew up on her family farm in Onaway, MI and now resides in Goetzville, MI. Her love for both small and large animals has driven her desire to become a part of the veterinary filed from a young age. She has a variety of animals at home including horses, cats and dogs.
Kathryn
Veterinary Technician Assistant
Kathryn is a dedicated large animal professional with deep roots in Michigan’s UP. Kathryn was born and raised on a farm, where her love for animals began. Kathryn was actively involved in 4-H and the Chippewa County Fair from a young age creating experiences that helped shape her passion for working with large animals. After attending college in Western New York for Animal Management, she went on to train at prestigious horse facilities working with elegant Friesians and Arabians. Today, she shares her home with 3 dogs, 2 cats, 3 horses and a flock of chickens. Outside of work, Kathryn enjoys gardening, tending to her horses, hiking and binge-watching Survivor.

Kinley was born and raised in Sault Sainte Marie, MI and is the step-daughter and daughter to owners Dr. Jeff and Marci LaHuis. Kinley enjoys working at the clinic in the Summers and after school to gain experience in the Veterinary field, as she aspired to become a Veterinarian when she gets older. Kinley has lots of dogs, cats and horses at home!

Jennifer is our part time front Veterinary Receptionist. She is originally from L’Anse, MI and has lived in Sault Ste. Marie, MI since 2012. Jennifer is married and has two sons at home. She also has her seven-year-old pride and joy Yellow Lab dog, Marley. Jennifer enjoys being outdoors in the sun, kayaking, going to the beach and playing cornhole in her spare time. Kaylin was born and raised in a suburb of Chicago, Illinois. She moved to Sault Sainte Marie in 2020 with her family for a change of scenery. She enjoys watching hockey with her family, lying out in the sun, and loves all animals. She has two cats at home – Bobette and Tofu
